How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session: A Complete Guide for Parents

Welcoming a new baby into the world is such a precious time, and capturing these first moments with a professional newborn session ensures memories you’ll treasure forever. My goal is to create a relaxed, stress-free experience where you can sit back, enjoy the moment, and let me take care of all the details.

To help you prepare, here’s everything you need to know before your baby’s session!

Step 1: Booking Your Session

Newborn sessions are best scheduled as early as possible—ideally before baby arrives. We’ll pencil in a tentative date around your due date and adjust as needed once your little one is here.

I love to photograph newborns within the first 2 weeks of life, when they’re sleepiest and easiest to pose. However, if your baby is older, don’t worry! I will always welcome newborns of any age if I have availability.

Step 2: Customizing Your Session

Every newborn session is uniquely designed to reflect your style and preferences.

✔️ All props, outfits, and backdrops are included—no need to bring a thing! I provide everything needed to create beautiful, timeless images.
✔️ Before your session, you’ll fill out a questionnaire to share your color and style preferences.
✔️ If you'd like, we can schedule a design session to chat about your vision and the special touches we can incorporate into your session.
✔️ Think about how you’d love to display your images—wall art, albums, or keepsake prints. I’m happy to guide you through the options!

Step 3: Preparing for the Session

To help your session go smoothly, here are a few simple tips:

🍼 What to Pack for Baby:

Diapers & wipes
A bottle (if baby uses one)
Pacifier (Even if baby doesn’t typically take one, it can be helpful for soothing during the session.)

👶 Keeping Baby Sleepy & Content:

Try to keep baby awake as much as possible the morning of the session, even during the car ride.
Dress baby in an easy-to-remove outfit (skip the onesie underneath).
When you arrive, bring baby inside while still in their carrier—especially if they’re sleeping. This helps us transition smoothly into the session.

💞 Bringing Personal Items
If there’s anything special you’d like to include in your session—a sentimental blanket, heirloom outfit, or meaningful keepsake—please bring it along!

Step 4: Enjoy the Experience (and a Great Cup of Coffee!)

My studio is designed for comfort, so you can sit back, relax, and soak in these sweet first moments. Text me your coffee or tea order before you arrive—I make a great iced latte! ☕
